Different types of review

There are two general types of review,  interventionist and the scholastic.  These are sometimes known as the systematic and traditional reviews.

Interventionist Review

The general purpose is to use all available, valid and reliable, evidence to make decisions in reaction to a condition (medical, social, economic etc.,) or proactively to lessen some occurrence.

The types of audience are those needing to make decisions about practical matters and include medical, educational, criminal justice, transport, housing and environmental practitioners and

policy makers.

Scholastic Review

The general purpose is to use dialectical reasoning to examine arguments, look for and resolve contradictions, challenge propositions and make inferences through rigorous conceptual analysis.

The types of audience are those, such as dissertation supervisors, needing to be assured the writer of the review has reached a level of cognitive ability to apply logical techniques and has the capacity to use high level conceptual thinking.
